The Oboran Confederacy Empty
PostSubject: The Oboran Confederacy   The Oboran Confederacy EmptyFri Dec 21, 2012 8:34 pm

Name of Empire: The Oboran Confederacy

Primary Species: the Oborans

Secondary Species
Vartyd
Kuhli
Slaif
Dosum
Xhil
Unrakar
Aitre

Empire Size: medium

Population: (If you have more than one species, indicate the ratio of each species within the total population)

Name of Capital/homeworld and other major planets or facilities: Boras Prime and Boras 1-4

Government: Each planet is governed independently, but all governments answer to the High Command on Boras Prime. All governments enforce the strain-based caste system.

Name of Leader: The Sovereign

People of importance
The Sovereign: The Sovereign is viewed almost religiously in Oboran society as the one who unified the Oborans in their time of greatest conflict. The Sovereign's host creature is unknown, but it has allowed the Sovereign to continue to live throughout the entirety of modern Oboran history. The Sovereign acts in the best interests of the Oborans, and he even allows another to rule in his place as a gesture of good will, intervening only when the Speaker becomes corrupt or unable/unwilling to continue their duties. In order to communicate with the Sovereign, the Speaker is implanted with a module that allows Oboran telepathy to extend between the Speaker and the Sovereign. The Sovereign's current location is unknown.

Gentriculus (The Speaker): Although the Sovereign is the ultimate ruler of the Oboran Confederacy, he chooses to allow another to rule in his place. Gentriculus is the Speaker of the Soevereign, and he is the functional ruler of the Boras Collective. Gentriculus is an Alpha and, like most Alphas, has a Vartyd host. He is a nervous pacifist who aims to rule as fairly as he can in order to diminish conflict. Whenever the Sovereign deems it fit to choose a new Speaker, each Boras world submits fifty Oboran leaders to Boras Prime; the Sovereign then chooses one to the Speaker. Gentriculus was chosen for his ability to focus on solutions rather than problems, and has remained in power for forty years.

Economic Type: Socialism
It is also very important to note than the Oborans do not trade dantium within their empire, or outside of it. Dantium supplies on Oboran worlds are strictly regulated by High Command based on the need of each world.

Desired Social Perk: UNBENDING LOYALTY - Over the eons, the Sovereign has proved time and time again that his way is the best for the Oborans. All within the Confederacy will respect those who represent the power of the Sovereign; even the non-sapient races of the breeding camps have been trained to submit to those of the High Command.

Technology Tree: The mineral known as dantium is a remarkable element which is completely stable within a certain temperature threshold. Once this threshold is exceeded, the element undergoes two type of fission. When the element's heat threshold is exceeded, it undergoes Type-1 fission which causes the element to emit intense cold. This facilitates the use of other radioactive elements in cold fusion. This is known as a Type-1 DPS (Dantium Power Source), and is used to power larger constructs such as vehicles, spacecraft, and buildings.

On the other hand, when the element's cold threshold is exceeded, Type-2 fission occurs. Type-2 fission causes the element to decay very slowly, and emit constant radioactivity. While a Type-2 DPS does not allow for the quantity of energy that a Type-1 DPS produces, it is more efficient for powering smaller constructs such as handheld weapons and other such equipment.

History:
The alphas were, naturally, the first to create intercontinental travel. Their first contact was with the marked slaif of the arctic continent. Despite their ability to communicate, the Gammas responded with violence towards the Alphas. The Alphas were technologically superior to the Gammas, having invented solar and wind power which afforded them abundant energy in the deserts of their home continent. The Gammas were no match for the Alphas, who quickly conquered the arctic continent. When they arrived at the jungle continent, the Betas were in an industrial revolution, and were quickly destroying their environment. The Alphas subjugated the Betas and, having established the practice of breeding hosts for future oborans, began cultivating the dosum, a race of bipedal worm-like creatures which could tunnel and work underground. Under the control of the Alphas, Betas and Gammas were forced into a caste system. Their government, the Oboran Confederacy, appoints officials to allocated Betas and Gammas into menial labor positions. The caste system is reinforced by the Betas and Gammas themselves, whose natural traits determined the assignments they were given. The Alphas bonded lesser oborans to new hosts and used them to mine in order to preserve the environment. The mineral dantium was also discovered in the lands. With this nuclear energy source, spaceflight was achieved.

There are five planets in the Boras Collective system. The Oboran homeworld, Boras Prime, is the second from the sun. Boras 1 is the closest, and Boras 2 is the third closest. Boras 3 and Boras 4 are the fourth and fifth closest to the sun respectively. The creatures from the other planets were collected and added to oboran breeding camps. From Boras 2 came Xhil, long, scaled mammals who blended in with their tropical surroundings. Boras 4’s orbit is stunted, leaving a perpetual dark side inhabited by the Unrakar, a species which resembled slug-like lamia with the heads of bats, whose vision adapted to the constant darkness. The proximity of Boras 1 to the sun caused the planet to become a volcanic wasteland, where only creatures such as the armored, spider-like Aitre could survive. However, Boras 3 was inhabited by the primitive No’e. The No’e were very much likes humans in spite of their lack of hair, gray skin, and large gelatinous eyes. When the oborans came to Boras 3, they offered the No’e the options of total surrender or total assimilation. The No’e had not witnessed the landing of the Oboran ship, and seeing only the small landing party, they massacred the first contact team. In retaliation, the Oborans released non-occupant oborans into the water and began to infiltrate. The No’e learned to target the patterned, red-eyed oboran hosts and they quickly hunted most of their own population to extinction, while the rest were killed off by the Oborans. While the Oborans still utilize this kind of warfare, they have always adhered to the policy of never cultivating sentient races in breeding camps.

By the time the Oborans had claimed Boras 3, they had become spread out amongst the planets. The leadership on Boras Prime sought to unify the Boras worlds under singular rule, but they approached their people in the same way they did the No’e. As such, civil war broke out in the Boras Collective. When it seemed that the conflict would destroy the Oborans, a single Oboran known only as the Sovereign led a coup on Boras Prime and seized power. Under the rule of the Sovereign, Boras Prime’s forces were reorganized. By ordering a full retreat, the other worlds joined forces and were lured into an offensive on Boras Prime, only to be decimated by a multi-lateral ambush orchestrated by the Sovereign. Having crippled the forces of the other Boras worlds in one fell swoop, Boras Prime forced surrender from the rest of the Boras Collective. The Sovereign then established the current confederacy. Each world would submit to Boras Prime, but would be allowed to govern independently. All worlds would obey the caste system that had become tradition, and a Speaker would rule in place of the Sovereign.
