Description of Capital/homeworld and other settlements of note:
Babylon 1 - The first of the Babylon Space Stations. Massive several kilometer stations designed to house tens of thousands of inhabitants. Unlike the other Babylons 3, 4, and 5, which are hubs for trade and local politics, Babylon is the designated Capitol of the Umbran Federation. Housing the Senate, it's members, and the many other departments of government it is at the heart of Umbran Space. Like the other Babylon station it is armored and armed well enough to defeat large squadrons of ships, but these defense are improved with the addition of a major fleet base in a nearby system.
Tenebrae - Homeworld of the Umbran race. Formerly Tidal Locked. Terraforming has started the planet on a 20 hour rotation cycle, and other efforts are reclaiming the desert into arable lands and slowly transporting the Ice from the former Dark Side.
Babylon 2 - Home to the elusive Bureau 13, the non existent R&D department of the Federation. Babylon 2 was, as the name implies, the second Babylon Station built. On the night before it's opening ceremony, when it had been emptied by all personnel, it vanished. The population still does not know hat happened too it. Some believe it lost, others destroyed. In truth it was moved out too appoint in interstellar space where it would be all but impossible to stumble across. There the best minds in the nation labor to advance technology in the Federation.
Government: Representative Democracy - Senate, The government is setup where each world or colony would have a number of Senators based on the number of citizens present. A set figure of one Senator per planet that had more than ten thousand population members (those of voting age, which was set at 16) is decided upon as a good equalizer as it gave even developing colonies some voice in the forming Senate.
Name of Leader(s): Anicetus Olympos - President
People of importance: Lukas Derbin - Head of Bureau 13
Karson Beldo - Head of the USMN (Umbran State Media Network)
Sera Quintus - Leader of the Senate
Economic Type: Social market economy
Desired Social Perk: Advanced R&D - Bureau 13, top secret advanced Research and Development organization. Does not officially exist. Their job is too reverse engineer new and exotic technology for the good of the Umbran Federation.
Technology Tree: An eclectic mix of technologies built around need. As a race that is able to blend into shadows, they have created technology that not only makes it easier, but can mimic this effect. Their homes world needed fixing, so they became experts in Terraformation, a useful ability when they began to colonize other systems. They make use of a Hyperspace FTL system which opens special windows into a higher dimension which allows much faster travel. they also have a short ranged Jump system that allows them to teleport a ship in-system. Military technology is mostly plasma based, with a reliance on missiles. Plasma shields are prevalent on military ships, but civilian shipping must make do with either thick hulls or granitic shielding generated by the gravity drives that propel ships. Experimental teleportation technology is slowly working its way through the federation, as are nano-forges that can take one form of matter and change it too another. Strangly, no one is quite sure where this technology is coming from.
History: The Umbran race has existed for many millennia, but their written history only stretches back 40,000 years, to an event known as the Great Cataclysm. It is unknown what this was, but speculation ranges from massive earthquakes, meteor strikes, or even alien invasion. No evidence exists to point in any direction, and debates still run on the topic. Civilization quickly flourished in the valleys and shadows of their world. By 35,000 AC (after Cataclysm) they already had a small colony on their moon, with exploration missions to the other worlds in their system. Today they are proudly stretched across several solar systems with a proud history behind them.
